Egg allergy is often experienced by children. To avoid allergic to eggs are advised not to eat eggs. But now researchers have found a surefire way to cope with allergies to egg, by providing white egg in the increased dose.
Hopkins Children's study conducted in the U.S. found that children who eat eggs with a higher dose of protein was able to overcome the experienced egg allergies.
The invention has been presented at the annual meeting of the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology on March 2, 2010 as reported by Indiavision, Wednesday (3/2).
Previous discoveries at Hopkins Children also showed the same approach. Discovery is known as oral immunotherapy, which has been successfully used to treat milk allergy in children.
Some children are allergic to milk in the study has managed to overcome their circumstances and much milder allergy symptoms after treatment.
Now researchers report very encouraging results in children allergic to eggs.
"As we see in patients with milk allergies before, oral immunotherapy for children allergic to eggs work the same way, but by training the immune system is slow to tolerate the allergens that cause allergic reactions," says Robert Wood, MD, director of Allergy & Immunology at Hopkins Children.
The researchers say preliminary results of this requires long-term monitoring of patients. They also warned that oral immunotherapy may be made only to a trained pediatric allergy.
In a study for 11 months to 55 children aged 5-18 years, researchers gave the egg whites with the increased dose to 40 patients during a food challenge held in a clinic under the supervision of a physician. While 15 children received placebo, foods such as egg whites, but do not contain egg protein.
At the end of the study, more than half the children who eat eggs (21 of 40 children) could tolerate 5 grams of egg without allergic reactions. In contrast, none of the children who eat eggs placebo able to tolerate eggs during the food challenge.
The researchers said the symptoms of mild to moderate that emerged from these egg allergy include itching and swelling of the mouth and throat.
As reported Kidshealth, egg food is actually good because they contain protein for body growth and brain development of children. When a person is allergic to eggs, so their immune system will overreact to the protein in eggs.
Any food made from eggs into the body's digestive system who are allergic to eggs would think that protein is harmful.
Then by the immune system responded by creating specific antibodies to fight the food that the body is considered dangerous. Antibody immunoglobulin E (IgE) will trigger the release of certain chemicals into the body, one of which is histamine.
Well, when people are allergic to eggs to eat foods that contain eggs, the immune system the body will release chemicals to protect the body. The release of these chemicals that affect the respiratory system, gastrointestinal tract, skin and cardiovascular system. This causes allergy symptoms such as shortness of breath, nausea, headache, abdominal pain and itching rashes.
Most people who allergic to egg protein in egg white, but some people can not tolerate the protein in egg yolk. Egg allergy usually arise when a toddler and grew serious when he reached five years.
