Do you get a nature's call now and then? The technical phrase for this quandary is frequent urination. Frequent urination in men and women is a common medical condition. A person urinates when the bladder is full and not able to store any more urine in it. The frequency of urination varies from individual to individual; normally it is six to eight times a day. But if in case an individual has to get up in the night to urinate three to four times and has a sudden surge of urgent urination causing discomfort in the bladder, there may be chances of the problem of frequent urination.
The problem of frequent urination in women can be due to various reasons which vary according to the symptoms like one of the reasons is hormonal changes. In some women, the condition of urinating frequently may be transitory but if the condition exists for a long time stretch, then one must visit the doctor to get a health check-up.
Though the problem of urinating frequently is faced by both men and women, but the severity of frequent urination in women is more. Some of the causes of frequent urination in men and women are common. Frequent urination in women can have various causes' like hormonal changes, pregnancy, urinary tract infection, inflammation of the bladder, diabetes and other common causes are aging, larger intake of fluids, anxiety (nervous bladder), use of diuretics and others.
Frequent urination in women is generally considered normal in case of pregnancy. When the fetus grows inside the uterus, a pressure is applied on the bladder, causing the weakening of pelvic muscles resulting in inability to store and release urine properly. Also, it can be due to alteration of levels of hormones during menstruation, menopause as well as pregnancy.
One may also experience pain and uneasiness while urinating and the urine could smell foul and may have a cloudy appearance. If an individual faces the problem of frequent urination mostly during nights, this condition is called as nocturia.
If the condition of frequent urination is allied with an increase amount of urine, then it may be caused by diabetes, heart or kidney diseases, etc. But if in case, there is not a raise in amount of urine, then the causes of this mayhem can be urinary tract infection, pregnancy, menopause or any sexual transmitted disease.
If in case you experience some pain or observe blood while urinating for a longer time, you should visit a doctor to get a check-up.
